ELIGIBILITY 

The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama is recognised by the U.S. Department of Education for the purpose of receiving Student Loans for U.S. students, and therefore eligible to certify loan applications for the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program.

The following programmes at Central are eligible for U.S. students to receive Student Loans:

  • All Undergraduate (BA) programmes
  • All Postgraduate (MA and MFA) programmes
  • All Research Degree (MPhil and PhD) programmes

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR MFA STUDENTS

U.S. Department of Education Federal Regulations state that a student must remain in the country that they are studying in for the duration of their studies to retain loan eligibility.  This means that any students wishing to spend the second year of the MFA in the U.S. (or any non-U.K. country) is not eligible to receive loans.

Any holidays/vacations and trips back to the U.S. (including during the summer between year one and two) are permitted but overseas placements are not. Please contact us for more information.

HOW MUCH CAN YOU BORROW

How much you can borrow depends on what course you are studying, what year you are in, your dependency status and how much you have previously borrowed.

DISBURSEMENT INFORMATION

What courses you are studying on determines how many disbursements you will receive through the academic year. Click here for more disbursement information including what to do if you wish to increase or decrease your loan during the year.

SATISFACTORY ACADEMIC PROGRESS

In order to maintain loan eligibility, students must be fully enrolled and make Satisfactory Academic Progress.

WITHDRAWALS AND RETURN OF TITLE IV FUNDS

If you withdraw from your course or take a Leave of Absence, there will be implications for your loan.

It is best to contact us beforehand to discuss these implications with you in person.
